Zenitizer for iPhone Duo with a Clever Trick to Start Meditations
Summary
Zenitizer, the clutter-free meditation timer for Apple users, is now fully adapted for the iPhone Duo and adds a clever interaction unique to the new device: just turn and place it into tent mode to start the meditation, like setting an hourglass.
Demo video
If you'd like to see it in action and imagine what it'll look and feel like on a real device, have a look at this demo.
Note: this is a quick take without proper script. so it's more of a loose walkthrough, but it gives a good overview of the features. Just please don't expect anything super polished yet😅
Adaptive UI Optimized for Each Pose
The UI isn't merely stretched to fill the extra space, but everything from the selection of tabs and toolbar items to the composition of the different layouts in all poses has been carefully rethought to look and feel great on iPhone Duo.
Relevant actions are quickly accessible from the iPhone Duo’s vertical toolbar, while actions that are not so important are hidden to keep the UI clean and simple.
When the Duo is partially opened in “book mode” content moves away from the crease, making it easy to see and interact with all aspects of the app, no matter how you're holding (and folding) it.
Merging What Belongs Together
One particularly delightful change: the inner display in landscape now shows the daily meditation goal and streak right next to personal meditation statistics.
Despite being semantically related, they were traditionally in separate tabs due to space constraints, but on iPhone Duo, you can just unfold and see them smoothly merge into one, which looks and feels like a very natural transition.
Automatic meditation start in tent mode
The most interesting feature is the automatic meditation start in tent mode. It was inspired by the act of rotating and setting down an hourglass.
Imagine this workflow: After configuring the timer on iPhone Duo, just rotate and place it down in tent mode and the meditation starts automatically.
This interaction certainly wouldn’t work for most apps, but it does make sense here. During a meditation users should not interact with the device anyways, so the act of placing it on a table feels very deliberate and the automatic start makes this frictionless.
The autostart feature is optional and can be turned off in Settings, and the app shows a tip the first time it happens. It only triggers on the transition into tent position, so opening the app with the phone already in tent-mode doesn't set it off, and it won't trigger again without an explicit posture change.
Day One Availability & Pricing Model
Zenitizer 1.18 is scheduled for App Store release ahead of the iPhone Duo launch. Basic meditation timer functionality can be used for free (including the new “auto start in tent mode” feature) while some features and advanced customization require a Zenitizer+ subscription or one-time purchase.
