Watch to 5K App Gains Full Mile Support in Version 7.0
Run Your Way with Distance Units Tailored to You
Watch to 5K, the popular Apple Watch app for beginner runners, just got even more versatile. With the release of Version 7.0, the app now offers full support for miles alongside kilometers, giving users the freedom to train in their preferred distance units. Whether you’re starting with the Couch to 5K plan or advancing with the 5 to 10K expansion, this update makes the app more accessible and customizable than ever.
Developed by indie creator Ben Callis during the lockdown, Watch to 5K has become a favorite among novice runners for its simplicity and phone-free Apple Watch experience. The app’s structured plans help users build their running ability from scratch, and now, with mile support, it caters to an even wider audience.
What’s New in Version 7.0:
- Miles or Kilometers: Switch between units for distance and pace, seamlessly integrated into the Watch and iPhone compaion app.
- Virtual Coach Updates: Get progress alerts at every mile during distance runs.
- UI improvements* Change units anytime via iPhone or Watch settings, with progress adapting instantly.
What Makes Watch to 5K Stand Out:
- Built for Apple Watch: Runs independently without your iPhone, complete with Watch face complications for quick access and progress tracking.
- iPhone Companion App: Review run stats, unlock achievements with custom illustrations, and sync sessions with Apple Health for a complete fitness overview.
- Run with Audio: Pairs effortlessly with your music or podcast app, dipping volumes for instructions and signaling the halfway point so you know when to turn back.
“Users asked for mile support, and I’m happy to deliver it in a way that just works,” said Callis. “It’s a small tweak that makes a big difference for runners who prefer miles.”
Mile support is now available free of charge with Version 7.0.
Origin of Watch to 5K
“During lockdown, I started running to stay active and clear my mind. I wanted a straightforward Couch to 5K app that worked on my Apple Watch without needing my iPhone. When I couldn’t find one that ticked all the boxes, I built Watch to 5K myself. After months of work and my own first 5K, I launched it as a standalone Watch app,” shared Callis.
