DyslexiaBuddy Introduces Its Biggest Reading Experience Update Yet
The release adds document-aware tutoring, guided read-aloud, smart word review, richer personalization, and a redesigned experience for iPhone and iPad.
July 20, 2026 — DyslexiaBuddy today announced a major update designed to make reading support available at the exact moment it is needed. The release brings the app’s reader, AI tutor, listening tools, word practice, and navigation together into one connected experience.
Instead of asking readers to leave the page when something becomes difficult, the new DyslexiaBuddy helps them read, pause, ask for support, and continue without losing their place.
Help that understands what you are reading
DyslexiaBuddy’s AI tutor can now work from the document currently open in the reader. On supported devices, readers can select a word or passage and ask the tutor to define it, simplify it, summarize the surrounding text, or answer a comprehension question.
Responses are designed around dyslexia-friendly teaching principles, including short explanations, everyday language, focused answers, and syllable breakdowns for difficult words. Tutor conversations can also be saved across sessions, allowing readers to return to earlier questions and explanations.
The result is help that feels connected to the page rather than a separate, blank-slate conversation.
A read-aloud experience that stays with the page
The updated reader connects spoken audio more closely to the visible text. DyslexiaBuddy keeps the current sentence in view and highlights each spoken word, helping readers follow with their eyes and ears at the same time.
Readers can now:
- Tap a word to begin reading from that point.
- Pause, resume, skip, and change speed from a floating mini-player.
- Continue listening while navigating elsewhere in the app.
- Control playback from the Lock Screen and Control Center.
- See reading progress and estimated time remaining.
- Return to an unfinished document through a Continue Listening experience.
DyslexiaBuddy also introduces a broader voice library with natural voice options, distinct personas, search, recently used voices, and clearer categories. These additions make it easier for each reader to find a voice that feels comfortable over longer listening sessions.
Difficult words become useful practice
When a reader asks for help with an unfamiliar word, DyslexiaBuddy can now save it to a personal review collection.
A spaced-repetition system brings each word back at a useful time. Remembered words appear less frequently, while difficult words return sooner. Readers can practice through a focused flashcard experience with a quick swipe-to-grade interaction.
This creates a bridge between understanding a word in the moment and recognizing it more confidently the next time it appears.
More control over every page
Reading comfort is personal, so the update expands DyslexiaBuddy’s appearance controls with named reading themes, a Night theme, bold text, customizable highlights, and an option to follow the device’s appearance.
Readers can adjust the page until it feels right for them without interrupting their progress.
Longer documents are also easier to explore through:
- Automatically detected document sections.
- A table of contents.
- In-document search with matching context.
- A visual progress map and draggable scrubber.
- Tap-to-seek and precise skip controls.
- Improved PDF and scanned-text cleanup.
- Better sentence and paragraph segmentation.
Together, these improvements help scanned pages and PDFs feel less like imported files and more like a purpose-built reading surface.
A better experience on iPad
DyslexiaBuddy now offers first-class support for iPad, with layouts designed for larger screens instead of simply stretching the iPhone interface.
The updated experience includes comfortable reading-column widths, native navigation patterns, improved sheets and dialogs, and better behavior in Split View. Readers can move between their library, documents, settings, and tutor while maintaining a clear sense of place.
Designed around the next helpful action
This update is not about adding more buttons. It is about making the next helpful action easier to find: hear a word, simplify a sentence, ask a question, revisit something difficult, or change the page until it feels comfortable.
DyslexiaBuddy will continue to develop around that principle: creating a calmer path from a difficult page to a more confident read.
Availability
The new DyslexiaBuddy experience is available for iPhone and iPad through the Apple App Store.
