PowerPhotos 3.0 released, with metadata editing and advanced search
Fat Cat Software has released PowerPhotos 3.0, a major update that adds new features including batch photo metadata editing, a new advanced search function, an upgraded photo browser and viewer, and more.
PowerPhotos works in conjunction with the Apple Photos app, filling in missing features that Photos itself doesn't provide. With PowerPhotos you can manage multiple photo libraries, either splitting up an existing library into smaller ones, or merging multiple libraries together into one. You can browse and search your libraries, edit photo metadata, copy photos and albums between libraries while retaining edits and metadata, and find and remove duplicate photos.
New in PowerPhotos 3.0 is the ability to edit photo titles, keywords, and captions right from within PowerPhotos. This is possible in Photos, but PowerPhotos aims to let you quickly iterate through photos without ever taking your hands off the keyboard. If you select multiple photos, PowerPhotos provides flexible batch editing options, that let you apply captions and titles using a templating system, so you can incorporate dates, counters, and other metadata from your photos into your titles or captions.
PowerPhotos 3 also features a new search indexing engine which allows you to perform complex searches on a wide variety of criteria, including a number that are not supported by Photos, such as file size, pixel dimensions, video durations, and more. Your search can include nested and/or predicates, search a single library or across multiple libraries at once, and you can save your searches for easy reuse.
The new photo browser in version 3 now updates live with library changes, for much faster browsing and reloading. It also features a brand new built-in photo viewer, and allows adding, moving, and deleting both albums and photos with full undo support right from within PowerPhotos. Moving photos or albums between libraries (instead of just copying them) is supported for the first time, as well as multiple library selection and a bunch of other minor improvements.
PowerPhotos 3.0 requires macOS Sonoma or later and runs on Intel or Apple Silicon Macs. It can be downloaded for free from https://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powerphotos and offers many of its features for free. Purchasing a license for $39.95 will unlock advanced features such as library merging, deletion of duplicate photos, and unlimited photo copying and exporting. Existing users of PowerPhotos 1 or 2, or iPhoto Library Manager can use their license key to upgrade for 50% off the regular price. Additionally, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of PowerPhotos first release in 2015, we're holding a 10th anniversary special with 10% off all PowerPhotos orders until May 16th.
