Beetastic 10th Anniversary! Made by Zac, Ella and their Father, John, ten years ago when Zac, aged 7, drew the graphics and was the creative designer and Ella, 9, the co-producer with John. Programmed by their Father, who founded Interactive Binary Illusions, Gee Whiz? Entertainment, Krome Studios, plus the creative director for Pandemic Studios. He also has a long history of producing games in his teens, famously producing Halloween Harry and Chilly Willy. So, John had an idea to introduce programming to his children.
The game would be called “Bees get dead” – Zac’s idea, then Mum (Leigh) had the idea of Beetastic. To play the game, you had to tilt your device and land a bee on a flower for 2 seconds to get a point; a rainbow flower gave you 2 points but was rarer. To add a twist, an angry bee in red would try and sting you during the game, so you would have to avoid them. Ella then had this idea to add a killer queen bee, which was faster and larger; it would spawn around 30 points. The game was simple, and the kids drew the graphics, creating a cute game.
Beetastic then went global - in the top games in 73 countries - ads were later added and funded a trip to visit the Apple HQ in Tokyo, Japan.
There were also some replica games copying Beetastic idea.
Now, Revisiting the game, Zac, now 16, in grade 10, and Ella, in her first year in UNI, have decided to add a new level, “Space.” It was created during the first release but was put in the archives; It has been added with new designs.
